    Abstract:

Applications: MicroN is a vision based force sensor that uses a digital camera, custom software, and a Displacement amplifying Compliant Mechanism to measure forces in the range of micro Newtons with a resolution of 2 micro newtons over 50 Hz bandwidth in real time.
Advantages: MicroN is a displacement amplifying compliant mechanism based force sensor that is developed to measure sensitive forces in the range of micro newton. it is robust, easy to handle, cost effective and has been developed with a tunable resolution. The product comes with a software interface to record the readings from the sensor. MicroN is primarily designed for invitro Fertilization. It can also be used in other experiments as a force sensor, which requires the detection of forces of the order of micro newton. For example, Micron can be used to estimate the force needed by wasps to drill through figs. It is portable, and it enables one to do onsite experiments, and measure and plot forces in realtime. MicroN can either be hand-held or fixed to a positioner depending upon the requirement

Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
