    Abstract:

Applications: 1. The invention discloses a device for enhancing capabilities of a visually impaired person comprising a plastic casing handle, at least two laser sensors embedded inside the plastic casing handle configured to provide side clearance from obstacles, at least one ultrasonic sensor placed on a rotating drum and a rotation fixer embedded inside the plastic casing handle in front to provide front clearance from obstacles, a power source configured to supply power to the device - a speaker installed inside the plastic casing handle configured to provide sound output. 2. An arrangement for installing cane on the device wherein the device emits vibration and sound of specific frequency and intermittency for auditory perception of the obstacle and the rotating drum and the rotation fixer allows the ultrasonic sensor to change the orientation without affecting holding position of the plastic casing handle.
Advantages: 1. The device is intended for both partial and completely blind users. The device can be used with a physical stick for a completely blind person or even without the stick for visually challenged person who can slightly perceive their ambience but still need some sensory assistance for better conceiving their spaces. 2. The mechanical system onto which the front ultrasonic sensor is seating can rotate to accommodate the uphill movement of the user without forcing them to put strain on their hand as the hand should hold the device in its natural position for longer period of time. 3. The device is designed to access public spaces independently with continuous feedback through audio or vibratory outputs for obstacles and clearances.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
