Please describe in detail including the TRL Level:
On 16.03.2020, MeitY and NIXI launched the registration for IDN domain names in remaining 8 languages in Sunrise period for which all the support right from APIs integration, translation of reserved names list, to suggestion of domain names for launch has been provided given by CDAC, GIST. This has enabled the registration of IDN in all the scheduled languages of India.

    Abstract:

Applications: 1. Language Policy Implementation (C-DAC Domain Names Validation and Variant Generation engines) can be offered to Registry operating in SARC region 2. Domain Names Validation Engine can be offered to Registrars for Domain Name Validation
Advantages: Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) rollout in 22 scheduled languages of India. One of the important requirements for Internet growth is the proliferation of content in the local languages. Growth of the websites in local languages has direct bearing with the development of content in local languages. Depiction of an address on Internet (Uniform Resource Locator - URL) of the website in local language will further go a long way in ensuring inclusive growth of Internet. The domain names in local languages are called Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs). IDNs enable common users to navigate through the Internet in their local languages. One can have domain names in his/her local language for example in Hindi, the domain name will look like “सीडैक.भारत” written in Devanagari. C-DAC has been instrumental in rolling out of the Internationalized Domain Names in India since 2008. Under the aegis of MeitY and in collaboration with National Internet Exchange of India, C-DAC GIST has developed a robust linguistic policy framework for safe and secure access to the IDNs in India. The same is popularly known as the ".bharat domain names". C-DAC GIST also implemented in the form of APIs that have been fully integrated in the NIXI registry system and covers 22 scheduled languages of India. Following are the outcome of the project: 1. Language policy document for 22 Indian Language. 2. C-DAC Software API’s (Domain Name Validation & Domain Name Variant Generation ) in all 22 Indian Language. 3. Translation and Transliteration of Reserved Names List in 22 Indian Languages. 4. Translation and Transliteration of Second Top Level Domain list in 22 Indian Languages. 5. Testing of C-DAC Software APIs. 6. Support ( Query resolution) for Language policies 7. Maintenance of C-DAC Software APIs. 8. Research on Domain Names to be launched.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
