    Abstract:

Applications: Wicking is the property of the porous material, which causes the flow of liquids through porous media, such as the flow of water through soil due to capillary action. In the present invention an apparatus and method for measuring wicking properties of a fabric material is developed. The developed technology is related to in-plane wicking measurement apparatus and a method is designed to test various fabric materials placed horizontally. The movement of absorbed water on the fabric material in multiple directions in which the gravity acts perpendicular to the surface of the fabric material. This apparatus and method is compatible with all kind of fabric irrespective of its thickness. It provides accurate and error free wicking properties through a computer software graph charting. It provides the rate of wicking of standard salinity water in different directions taking into consideration the absorption of the sample.
Advantages: This wicking measurement system which is designed to test all kind of fabric placed horizontally i.e. gravity acting perpendicular to the surface of the sample to be tested. The apparatus is used to measure wicking properties of fabrics with varying thickness and pores.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
