If 'Other', please specify:
Please give more details of new technical application area:
Underwater drone is a Remotely Operated tethered underwater Vehicle ROV.It is highly maneuverable, and is operated by a crew either aboard a vessel or floating platform or on proximate land. It will carry multiple payloads like cameras, lights and various sensors for surveillance, navigation and inspection purpose.
Organization(s):
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Pune
Affiliated Ministry: MeitY, Govt. of India
Type of technology development: Indigenous
Does the technology help in replacing any import items currently
procured from outside India?
Yes
Does the technology have export potential? Yes
Category of Technology developed: Immediate Deployment
Stage of Development: Field Test
Please describe in detail including the TRL Level:
Completed the design and development, lab trials, field trials of Underwater Drone which is basically a light weight portable rugged inspection class remotely operated submersible robotic vehicle. The unit was developed as a technology and functionality demonstrator model. The design is customisable as per the field requirements of the end user depending on the nature of indented application. The system can be mapped to a TRL 6 category.

    Abstract:

Applications: 1. Sub sea bottom inspection 2. Hull inspection of Ships and boats 3. Study of coral reefs and marine ecosystem 4. Assistance in search and rescue mission operations in water bodies 5. Inspection of Dams , submerged structures like columns and piers of bridges etc 6. Target identification 7. Coastal surveillance
Advantages: 1. Underwater drones help replace the conventional manual divers who are being currently resorted to for various inspection purposes underwater. 2. The camera of Underwater drone captures live underwater video and send it through the tether to the Navigation Control Console, from where it will be displayed at the console display HMI. 3. The device is also capable of performing small works underwater like, collecting samples or solid objects, grabbing of cables, ropes etc using small robotic gripper and manipulator provided in the drone.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
