Please describe in detail including the TRL Level:
A circuit is designed containing all the essentials of filters and amplifiers integrated in it. Piezoelectric plate sensor has been integrated with the circuit and tested under random vibration and various form of signals. Data processing methodology has been verified by writing and running Arduino and MATLAB programs. A commercially available Acoustic Sensors i.e. Contact Microphone (CM-01B) is procured and tested under general acoustic vibration and integrated with the circuit. PVDF based flexible sensor film is fabricated in the smart materials and structures laboratory at IIT Guwahati and tested under random vibrations. The product development is in TRL-4 stage.

    Abstract:

Applications: The aim of this research is to distinguish the human knee joint health assessment by using the Acoustic Emissions (AE). In the human biological system the knee joint is very important because it functions as a weight bearer as well as torque transmitting member in the body. There are various kind of activities people do in their daily life including walking, running, jumping, playing etc. There are very common knee injuries in athletes and non-athletes like fractures, dislocations, sprains and ligament tears. Osteoarthritis is a very common disease in people nowadays. Knee health assessment is related to the proper functioning and positioning of bones like femur, tibia, fibula, and patella along with ACL, PCL, MCL and meniscus. Also the strength of a knee joint varies by male to female and person to person. The major application of this research outcome is to detect the stage of osteoarthritis. A wearable device based on piezoelectric sensor is proposed in this study so that, in a human gait cycle these AE signals can be recorded and noise can be captured which is produced by the healthy and an unhealthy knee.
Advantages: A real time health assessment of the knee joint is possible by using the proposed wearable device. Early intervntion of desease detection is helpful to avoid total knee replacement in people.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
