The technology has been developed and validated for the diagnosis of Bovine Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency disease (BLAD) in breeding bulls in the Institute laboratory and being used for diagnosis of BLAD in bulls of bull rearing unit of our institute. The samples received from outside institutes, NGO and Progressive farmers of the country are also being diagnosed for the same disease using this technology. The technology is at the level of TRL- 5. Recently the technology has been submitted to the Agrinnovate India Limited to find potential buyer

    Abstract:

Applications: PCR-RFLP based technique has been developed for identifying genetic disease such as Bovine Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency (BLAD).
Advantages: This technology helps for identifying carrier bulls for this genetic disease. Identified carriers animals are removed from the population and thereby spread of this disease is controlled. NOVEL FEATURES Rapidity - as the test can be completed in 2 to 2 and half hours User friendliness - as it is easy to perform and a one step process Economical - because it does not need expensive reagents (such as real time PCR machine, restriction enzyme, reagents for PAGE, Staining solution etc.) Specificity - as the assay employs a multi set of primers with deliberately incorporated mutation

Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
