Technical Application Area: Other
If 'Other', please specify:
Animal Health
Please give more details of new technical application area:
Novel and chemically characterized anti-tick Phyto-formulation for the management of ticks including acaricide resistant species. Extracted from commonly available plant which requires very low agronomical conditions to grow. The plant is herbaceous in nature and widely available across the country. Formulation is effective against acaricide-resistant ticks. Having fly repellent properties. Less chance of development of resistance to the developed formulation as it contains many active principles working synergistically against ticks. Safe for animal application (as per OECD guidelines 404, 410, 423). Stable at different temperature conditions without losing anti-tick activity. Quality control markers are identified. Patent no. 327146

    Abstract:

Applications: Technology is not specific to a particular country. The technology can be adopted in organized and unorganized dairy farms where excessive chemical insecticides are in use. The present technology is effective in managing the problem of multi acaricide resistant tick populations The product can be marketed in any tropical and subtropical countries, where tick infestations and acaricide resistance are posing serious threats to animal production. The technology can be used to improve the quality of milk and dairy products.
Advantages: Presently adopted chemical based technology is not environmentally safe, contaminating meat and milk products, health hazardous for human and animals and due to excessive use the tick populations have developed resistance to most of the chemical products available in the market The present technology is environmental friendly. Non contaminating to meat and milk. Safe for humans and animals. Effective against chemical acaricide resistant tick species. Limited or no possibility of development of resistance The technology will promote green animal husbandry practices Will improve the quality of animal products and thus will enhance the export potential of animal products in developed countries. As raw materials can be grown under minimum agronomical requirements, this can be grown in non productive land and thus can improve the economic condition of farmers of low rainfall states

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
