The main objective is to prepare multiple cylindrical soil samples at the same time with properties such as density, temperature, and void ratio uniformly maintained for using in Unconfined Compression Testing and Tri-axial compression testing for determining the shear parameters of soil.

    Abstract:

Applications: This project is based on manufacturing a device which can prepare cylindrical soil sample for use in the soil testing machines like Unconfined Compression Testing, Triaxial Compression Testing etc. for the determination of soil properties. It was aimed for preparing multiple soil samples at the same time and state like water content and unit weight for getting comparable result of the soil properties. The device will work in various phases which will be manual at first to check its feasibility of producing identical samples and later it will be converted into auto sampler if possible. The project is important in order to meet the below mentioned objectives To reduce sources of error in results in the unconfined compression test by maintaining the properties such as density, temperature, and void ratio are uniformly. To impart accuracy in shear parameters obtained from the testing of a sample. So that accurate results can be further used for computing other problems. To provides uniformity in the sample by producing samples of similar dimensions and identical characteristics. To save time by producing large number of samples at the same time. To reduce the human effort and labour by producing multiple sample at one time To provide maximum efficiency
Advantages: Helps in obtaining required samples in a very easy manner. Enhances the accuracy of the sample obtained. Very rapid in working and easy to operate. Mechanism employed is easily understandable. Identical samples can be obtained from each operation.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
