    Abstract:

Applications: 1. The present invention provides a system for remotely detecting a keystroke activity on a remote keyboard and display the corresponding character in a display comprising a remote keyboard and a camera located at a predetermined or calibrated distance from the said keyboard and is operably connected to a central processing unit. 2. The method for remotely detecting a keystroke activity on a keyboard and display the corresponding character in a display comprising the steps of capturing continuous frames of keystroke activity in the keyboard and transfer them to the central processing unit, estimating the underlying defocus blur value in the activity region to estimate the depth of the keyword hence corresponding keyboard character in keyboard in the central processing unit and - displaying or outputting the said character into a display operably connected to the said central processing unit
Advantages: 1. The inventors have come with a system and method which measures the degree of defocus blur associated with a finger/object initiating a keystroke and translate the information to identify a course on a projected keyboard pattern. 2. The degree of defocus blur is measured by processing image frames retrieved through an external or integrated camera connected to the device. 3. Defocus blur based estimation is a vision-based technique that can be used to accurately measure and calculate the degree of a defocus blur corresponding to the various keys of a keyboard while typing or command activity is carried out thereon by the user. 4. This defocus blur information may further be used to estimate the depth of a stylus with respect to the keyboard. A stylus here refers to any object which may be used to drive a keystroke event.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
