Medical equipment is an essential part of health care. Proper equipment management and maintenance ensures that they remain safe for its intended use, its operational life is maximized and lifetime cost is minimized. e-Upkaran helps healthcare facilities to achieve this objective. The solution mainly deals with biomedical equipments, and maintenance is either undertaken by the department or through third party vendors. The application provides processes for inventory management, reactive and preventive maintenance management, complain management, equipment purchase management, equipment budget management. It captures data related to new demands, PO generation, receiving and installation at site, its daily usage while in operation, all stages in maintenance like complaint raising, scheduling and attending when equipment is non-operative due to preventive maintenance, regular maintenance, breakdown etc. and final disposal of equipment when condemned.

    Abstract:

Applications: The e-Upkaran mainly deals with biomedical equipments, and maintenance is either undertaken by the department or through a vendor chosen through tender process in a particular laboratory of the healthcare facility where equipment or instruments are placed. The application provides processes for inventory management, preventive maintenance management, complain management, equipment purchase management, equipment budget management. However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
