    Abstract:

Applications: Portable gait analysis system is a crucial requirement for clinical gait analysis in real walking environment. The present invention can be used for variety of clinical applications for example neurological disease diagnosis affecting ambulation, gait rehabilitation, fall prediction in elderly, control of neural prosthesis etc. The developed system is based on IR based distance sensor which provide highly accurate gait parameter estimation. This system estimates the gait parameters with simple mathematical calculations based on 2D geometry and simple trigonometry unlike IMU based system which requires complex integration and de-drifting calculation to accurately estimate the parameters.
Advantages: Can be used to predict fall in the elderly population and patient with neurological diseases, to diagnose neurological conditions affecting ambulation like Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis (MS), diabetes, spinal cord injury (SPI), cerebral palsy (CP) etc., The system is user independent i.e. any user irrespective of the size of the shoe can use it. This system is wearable and at the same time less prone to movement artifacts and comfortable to use with the body.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
