Border molding is one of the significant steps in the discipline of prosthodontics and impression procedure used to adapt a thermoplastic material closely to the tissues of the patient’s vestibule The borders of an impression tray are typically shaped by manual manipulation of tissues contours of the impression and determine size of the functional vestibule in the prosthesis. Conventionally, border molding uses a thermoplastic compound along the interior border of the impression tray. It is softened under a mild flame above its fusion temperature using a Bunsen burner. The modeling compound that softens when heated and hardens when cooled with no chemical reaction involved in its setting mechanism.. Once the border molding is completed, a tray has to be prepared before making a definitive impression. Further, a space is also created for definitive impression material and thickness of the border may be adjusted by trimming it with a conventional medical device According to the present disclosure, an automatic dispenser with an enclosure to hold a modeling compound between a narrow nozzle and a lead screw, an electric motor, with a motor shaft coupled to the lead screw passing through the enclosure and a heater to generate heat in the device for softening the modeling compound stick. The lead screw is driven forward and backward within the enclosure by operating the motor shaft in such a way that the forward motion of the lead screw pushes the softened modeled compound stick at constant flow rate.

    Abstract:

Applications: Since the device is portable one with rechargeable battery feature, the device can be used in rural camps. The device can also be used as a putty extruder in orthodontic extrusion TP19766683685-app.pdf
Advantages: An Automatic Dispenser is fabricated for an automatic, thorough heating of the compound. This device can apply the stick compound with suitable viscosity for border molding This ensure a uniform heating of the green stick compound and a uniform layer across the borders of custom trays. It is easy to apply an even 2-to 3-mm thickness of modeling compound on the buccal or lingual flange area of the custom tray at once. The hot water bath is not needed for tempering because the device does not use direct flame, lengthening the working time. The border molding technique with this device saves time and equipment and is easy to learn. Indian Healthcare market is undergoing changes and patient centric approach is the core of all new development With the current focus on patient care the demand for shorter chair side time and minimum discomfort to patient lead to the invention of Automatic Dispenser for Border Molding Material This device will make the dentistry simpler for the denture cases and also the new generation of dentist will adapt faster to new changes which will reduce the time and effort to give the desired result This technique using a new device can make the border molding procedure faster and simpler. It provides comfort to the dentist and the patient With less chair side time in border molding the dentist will be able to deliver the denture faster and concept of 1 day dentures will make the life of patient comfortable ,who currently need to visit dentist multiple times to get dentures

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work
read more >>

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
