    Abstract:

Applications: Coronavirus disease (COVID 19) has recently paralyzed the entire world due to its higher contagious nature and mortality rate. World health organization (WHO) and Doctors recommend that N95 respirators (facemasks) can play pivotal role to stop the transmission of dreaded airborne tiny particulates of COVID 19 virus to protect the mankind. This led to a deluge of population using and throwing away the used face masks all over the world. These disposed masks are posing severe threats not only to the environment but also can act as a secondary source of infection if left unprotected in open. Therefore, we propose a scalable and reusable N95 or N99 facemasks with enhanced antiviral or antibacterial property that has a capability of filtering out virus or bacteria containing particulates as well as deactivating the virus trapped in the filter simultaneously. This will lessen the chances of reinfection from reusing the masks multiple times and also protect humans and other species from contacting the COVID 19 disease from trash or waste sources. Our scalable N95 or N99 facemasks include polymeric nanofiber filter (e.g. polyvinylidene fluoride, polycaprolactone, nylon6, polyacrylonitrile) embedded with antiviral or bacterial agents (e.g. inorganic antiviral or bacterial nanoparticles and organic antiviral or bacterial molecules).
Advantages: This proposed method is a simple, an easy scalable and low-cost fabrication technique for development of scalable and reusable N95 or N99 mask with enhanced antiviral or antibacterial property. This technology will be used to fabricate nanofiber based N95 or N99 facemask. The nanofiber mats functionalized with different size nanoparticles have shown great potential for removal of airborne contaminants.

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
