    Abstract:

Applications: People with limited physical abilities and restricted mobility, including the elderly, require the assistance from another person or complex, expensive, unattractive or bulky devices (such as lift chairs and lift cushions) for simple every day activities. Howeve, these devices have several diasdvantages like they assist in getting up but not while sitting, they are heavy and bulky and cannot be moved easily, they are difficult to assemble and disassemble and have complex manufacturing and assembly. The current invention relates to a self assisting chair that can provide complete support to the users to get up from a sitting position and to sit from a standing position. The chair has an electric actuator which is controlled by a button and assists the user in sitting down or standing up.
Advantages: 1. It lifts the user up from sitting position to standing position without requiring another person to support. It also assists in sitting and obviates the problem of awkward bump on the seat 2. Provides ergonomic support 3. Provide support of handles of the chair and seat rest to the user 4. Easy to use as controlled by a button

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
