    Abstract:

Applications: Wood substitute advanced hybrid composite materials for architectural applications Composites for doors, furniture, partition walls & roofing sheet Alternative to wood and avoids deforestation. Moisture, corrosion, termite and fungus resistant particle board and beam, columns Railway’s sleeper birth panels/floor panel Modular Kitchen Ship Building materials and their interiors and furniture application Product developed in view of the make in India and clean India programmes.
Advantages: The developed technology for making composite panels using different industrial inorganic wastes such as fly ash, marble waste, granite waste and other waste generated from thermal power plants, marble industry, mining industries The products prepared from the inorganic waste particulates exhibits superior performance over commercially available MDF, ply wood and timber materials. The developed products have high mechanical strength, glossy finish nature and very low water absorption. The developed products have fungus and termite resistance properties. The composite products are well known recognized as a “Hybrid Wood Substitute Composite Materials. In India, use of timber has been restricted due to increasing price, non-availability and various environmental threats including global warming. At CSIR-AMPRI Bhopal the Hybrid Composites (HBC) were developed as a consequence of the National Forest Policy of Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF), Government of India to reduce consumption of timber in building and house construction and avoid deforestation. These hybrid composite materials can be made with different design, size, shape, texture, and thickness and finishing

THE VISION
THE MISSION
ABOUT I-STEM
It has always been the basic tenet of the Government of India, in generously funding R&D efforts at academic institutions over the years, that facilities established through such support be made available to those needing them and qualified to make use of them for their own research work

However, this was never easy or straightforward for, among other reasons, there was no ready source of information of what facility was available and where. Thanks to the Web, it is much easier today to have a national and regional “inventory of resources”, so as to match users with the resources they need, and to do all this in an efficient and transparent manner.

This can lead to a leap in R&D productivity and greatly enhance the effectiveness of public investment. This is the motivation behind I-STEM.
